For a short visit to Izmir, starting in the city centre makes sense. Konak, Kemeraltı and the Kordon bring different experiences into one day: a landmark square, a bazaar and sea air. This is a central Izmir itinerary. Plan Çeşme, Alaçatı or Ephesus separately rather than treating them as easy additions to the same afternoon.
Begin around Konak Clock Tower
A short walk around Konak helps you settle into the city and choose your pace. Leave space for people crossing the square when taking photographs near the Clock Tower. Agree on a meeting point and an approximate lunch break with your group. You do not need a minute-by-minute schedule to give the day a useful structure.
Kemeraltı is more than a shopping stop
Give the bazaar time for its streets, small details and pauses as well as purchases. Consider including Kızlarağası Han in your route. Clarify prices and product details before buying. In busier areas, arranging regular meeting points can be easier than asking the whole group to wait inside every shop together.
Slow down on the Kordon
Give the final part of the day to the waterfront. Divide your time between walking and sitting; not everyone needs to cover the same distance. If sunset is part of your plan, check its timing for the season. Choose a café or meal around your budget and seating comfort as well as the view.
Separate a city day from a regional trip
Izmir province offers a wide area to explore, but a central-city day and a trip through surrounding districts are different itineraries. Establish your accommodation address and return transport first. With only one day, staying central may be more rewarding than rushing between distant destinations. Save regional routes for another day if your stay is longer.
Before you go
- Plan Çeşme or Ephesus separately from this city-centre walk.
- Bring a small, comfortable bag for the bazaar.
- Allow water and shade breaks in summer and a layer for the waterfront.
